Art History & Appreciation

Art history and appreciation is an important part of the art and design curriculum. Students gain a chance to understand the cultural and social settings when art movements and artworks were created. In this particular scheme of work, students studied the Romantic movement, comparing two artists, JMW Turner and John Constable. Students improved their critical analysis skills, knowledge and vocabulary. A group of mixed ability TY students took part in this scheme. It was important to differentiate with lower and higher order questioning. Students really benefited from keyword charts to help jog their memories. Re-cap question sheets and short quizzes were used to assess student learning.
